Swastika the movie - PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate release:

"The Mask" bad guy, Orestes Matacena, turns good guy using Kickstarter for new movie "Swastika," about the Jewish Resistance against the Nazis.

Kickstarter backers will make history with “Swastika,” a story never told before in cinema. The Jewish Resistance fighters of World War II mirror those that fight for freedom in a post World War II society, making this movie relevant even today!

LOS ANGELES, October 30, 2013 -- "The Mask" bad guy Orestes Matacena, with producing partner Orna Rachovitsky, empower the public to become Kickstarter backers of their latest movie “Swastika” on the world's largest crowdfunding platform for creative projects. "The average moviegoer is not a decision maker at a big Hollywood studio, and, therefore, will never be able to dictate what movies are made," Orestes says.

The filmmakers created a presentation on the Kickstarter website (www.kickstarter.com) that anyone can view and set a funding goal. The viewers then decide whether or not to pledge at a certain level and become "backers." If the financing goal is reached, then the movie will be funded and made, which also unlocks specific rewards set for each pledge level.

“There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” -- Elie Wiesel

The movie “Swastika” is about the Jewish Resistance in the streets of Warsaw, Poland during the Nazi occupation. Very few movies have been made directly about the Resistance during this time (http://www.imdb.com/list/I7z76BSZKK4/). Producer Orna Rachovitsky explains, "It is imperative to honor and remember these heroes (known and unknown) for their sacrifice to stop Nazis in their tracks. History repeats itself, and we see today the same atrocities in the world with genocide, slavery, forced marriage and human trafficking, to name a few."

“The Nazis intended to destroy human values. The ghetto conditions of starvation, diseases, lack of medication, overcrowding, forced labor, abuse, humiliation, and death forced people to wage a day-to-day struggle to survive and eroded the stability of the family unit.” -Franziska Reiniger

Orna Rachovitsky and Orestes Matacena have teamed up on narrative feature films during the past fourteen years. "The goal of every film we make is to increase awareness and provoke thought while entertaining the audience," says Orestes, "Awareness and education are the keys to stomping out evil, and film can accomplish these effectively by reaching a large audience."

Orna Rachovitsky adds, "We want moviegoers to enjoy an entire viewing experience while opening their minds up to new ideas. Movies, and the arts in general, have the power to shift us. They can encourage us to stay informed about subjects, continue on a course of discovery and take action. “Swastika” is no exception."

The filmmakers, along with their backers, can make a difference in the world through movies! Anyone who is interested to be part of this movie making experience can become a backer at www.kickstarter.com. The "Swastika" campaign begins at 12 NOON, October 30, 2013 and will continue for forty-seven days until December 16, 2013.
